Passport and Visa Requirements
For our experiences in France, Corsica and Sardinia, UK citizens require a passport that is valid for at least three months beyond their length of stay. EU nationals require a valid national ID card. A visa is not required.
For our experiences in South Africa, UK citizens and EU nationals require a passport that is valid for at least 30 days after the intended date of departure. The passport must have at least one blank page for entry stamp, which cannot include the endorsement page at the back. A visa is not required for stays of up to 90 days.
For our Middle East experiences British and EU nationals require a passport that is valid for 6 months and a visa to enter Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.
Jordan – a visa can be readily obtained on arrival at the airport or border, cost JD10 (single entry), valid for one month.
Syria - a visa should be obtained in advance from the Syrian consulate in your home country, usually takes from 4 days to 2 weeks to issue. There are two types, single and multiple-entry visas, both are valid only for 15 days inside Syria and must be used within 3 months of the date of issue (6 months for multiple entry visas). Visas can be extended for longer than 15 days at an immigration office. If your passport has any evidence of a visit to Israel and the Palestinian Territories your visa application will be refused.
Lebanon – visas can be obtained on arrival at Beirut International Airport or any other port of entry at the Lebanese border, providing passport holders do not possess an Israeli stamp, and they hold return or onward tickets. Visa can also be obtained in advance at any Lebanese embassy or consulate and are usually issued the next day, but can sometimes take longer. Visas are valid for 3 months and cost about US$20 for a single entry and US$40 for a multiple-entry.
Customers are advised to check with the appropriate Embassy, Consulate or British Foreign Office for the exact passport and visa requirements before travelling.
Health Requirements
Possession of adequate medical insurance is a booking condition for all experiences, plus obtaining a European Health Insurance Card, EHIC (replacement for the old E111) from your local Post Office is highly advisable. There are currently no vaccinations recommended for trips to France, Sardinia or Corsica.
Visitors to South Africa may wish to consider vaccination against typhoid and cholera and taking anti-malaria tablets depending on the area being visited. These are not generally required for the areas we visit during our South African experiences.
Middle East health recommendations-
Jordan – vaccines are recommended against hepatitis A and tetanus and are sometimes required against rabies, typhoid, hepatitis B and tuberculosis. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required from travellers coming from infected areas
Syria – vaccinations are recommended for typhoid, hepatitis A and for those at high risk against hepatitis B, some medical experts advise vaccination against cholera. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required from travellers coming from infected areas. Malaria risk, exclusively in the benign vivax form, exists along the northern border, in the El Hassaka province, from May through October
Lebanon - a yellow fever vaccination certificate is required from travellers from infected areas. Typhoid occurs in rural areas.
Inoculation regulations and recommended precautions can change at short notice and customers should always seek advice from their GP, practice nurse or travel health clinic at least eight weeks before travelling.
Travel Advice
Should you have any general queries relating to travelling abroad you may wish to visit the Foreign and Commonwealth Office web site at www.fco.gov.uk/knowbeforeyougo for up-to-date travel information.
Travel Insurance
All customers are required to obtain travel insurance against medical and personal accident risks as a condition of booking. This must be for all activities undertaken and include repatriation costs, air ambulance and helicopter rescue services and cancellation and curtailment. We recommend a policy provided by Campbell Irvine which is suitable for our experiences. Details of this policy are available on request. You may of course wish to arrange you own policy in which case it is your responsibility to ensure that the policy provides comparable or greater cover. You should ensure that there are no exclusion clauses limiting protection for the type of activities included in your experience. Please remember that failure to declare a medical condition could render a policy invalid.
Risks and Itineraries
Your safety is our first priority, however the activities we offer all involve risks, these risks can be minimised by good skill and judgement but cannot be eradicated. Customers placing bookings should appreciate and accept the risks involved in adventure activities.
Your ExplorAider service provider will intend to stick to the programme that has been agreed with you. However, ExplorAider aims to provide a highly personalised service that does not restrict you unnecessarily, your provider/guide will therefore be happy to incorporate changes around your needs and preferences where possible. Equally it is important to understand that a degree of on-tour flexibility may by required on all aspects of your holiday to allow for bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
